Welcome dogs!
Dogs are welcome members of our community. Chuck Seager, Dog Control Officer for Cazenovia, knows as well as anyone that our dogs provide a great deal of pleasure, companionship and unconditional love. “They are faithful friends and an important part of many families”. But he reminds us that as a dog owner, you have legal responsibilities towards other members of the community as well as towards your pet.
1. Properly restrain your dog at all times and do not allow it to run at large. Town and Village Codes deem a dog at large when it is off the property of its owner, and not under restraint. Please use a leash. Dogs are animals, after all, and there will always be an element of unpredictability.
2. Leave only paw prints. Do not allow your dog to leave a mess on other’s property (including public property). Always pick up and dispose of the waste properly.
3. Do not allow persistent and offensive howling or barking.
4. Do not allow your dog to intimidate others or chase motor vehicles or bicycles.
5. Maintain a current dog license at all times.
Pet owners must accept the consequences of their dog’s actions. If a dog owner receives a violation notice, he or she may be required to appear before the Town or Village Justice who has discretion to levy fines. Specifics regarding dog control regulations are available at the town or village office or websites (townofcazenovia.org or villageofcazenovia.com).
As you enjoy the beautiful warm weather with your dog, please remember to set an example for others by being a conscientious owner with a well-behaved dog.
